Become a Board Member

The International Dyslexia Association, Kansas-Missouri branch (IDAKSMO) is seeking candidates for the Board of Directors roles beginning June 1, 2026.

We are in need of parents of students with Dyslexia, business owners, and a treasurer.

Serving in these roles is an opportunity to support the mission and vision of the International Dyslexia Association, Kansas-Missouri, to supporting teachers, individuals with dyslexia and their families, and the communities that advocate for them.

The Board consists of:

• • All Officers (President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and one at-large member)
  • Up to 10 additional elected members (Directors)

Board of Directors – Description & Responsibilities

• The Board is vested with authority and responsibility for:
  • Establishing policy
  • Managing all affairs of the Branch
  • Advancing the interests of the Branch in alignment with governing by laws and incorporation documents
• All voting members must be members of the Branch
• Directors serve 2- or 3-year terms (determined by the Nominating Committee)
• Minimum of 4 meetings per year (June, September, December, March)
• Additional meetings each month for individual committees
• Directors are responsible for:
  • Staying updated via the shared calendar
  • Participating in committees
• Directors must be active members, which includes:
  • Attending quarterly Board meetings
  • Not missing more than 2 committee meetings per year (per committee)
  • Serving on at least one committee
  • Checking communication (email, chat, etc.) at least every 48 hours

Our terms run June 1 – May 31, each year. We continually accept applications but we only begin reviewing them in February of each year.
